Ketel Won Heads Field in Saturday's 12th Running of the $100,000 Refrigerator Handicap
(Wednesday, October 1, 2008) - R.D. Hubbard’s Ketel
Won has been made the 8-5 morning line favorite for the 12th Running
of the $100,000 Refrigerator Handicap at Lone Star Park on Saturday,
Oct. 4. Trained by Paul C. Jones, Ketel Won will face nine competitors
in the 440-yard contest for three-year-olds and up.
As a bonus, the $55,000 TQHA Claiming Futurity for two-year-olds,
originally scheduled to be run last month at Sam Houston Race Park
before being cancelled due to Hurricane Ike, has been rescheduled
for Saturday at Lone Star Park.
In the Refrigerator Handicap, jockey Cody Jensen will try to extend
Ketel Won’s current winning streak to four. A winner of the
$50,000 All-American Gold Cup on Aug. 30 at Ruidoso Downs in his
only race this year, the five-year-old is seven for 15 lifetime
with career earnings of $454,780.
Second choice at 4-1 in the morning line is Mercy & Ray Hinklin’s
Diamond Tres Seis, a winner of three of his last four. Trained by
M. Heath Taylor, the four-year-old gelding will have Gilbert Ortiz
in the irons. Another Refrigerator contender is Ab Hope for Cash,
owned by Tommy F. Bass and trained by Joseph Manucy, who is coming
off of second-place finish in the $40,000 Mid City Stakes at Fair
Grounds on Aug. 23 and listed at 5-1 by Lone Star Park odds maker
Rick Lee.
The field from the rail out, with jockey and morning line odds
listed in parenthesis, consists of: Sassys Tuffy (Jose Amador Alvarez,
10-1); Dads on a Prowl (Randy R. Wilson, 30-1); Ketel Won (Cody
Jensen, 8-5); Ab Hope for Cash (Alfonso Lujan, 5-1); Mr Perry Dash
(J. R. Ramirez, 20-1); Miss Kips Streakin (Rodrigo Sigala Vallejo,
30-1); Easy Dashin Sixes (Santos Carrizales, 8-1); Catscape (Christopher
G. Zamora, 10-1); Eyesa Country Miss (Kenny Muntz, 10-1) and Diamond
Tres Seis (Gilbert Ortiz, 4-1)
Scheduled as race 10 on the 11-race program, the Refrigerator
Handicap has an approximate post time of 10:11 p.m.
In the TQHA Claiming Futurity, jockey Gilbert Ortiz will ride the
8-5 favorite McM Accent On Dash, who is owned by D and D Machine
Tool Parts, Inc. The Roy Roberts trainee will try to improve his
career record to four wins from five starts on Saturday in the 350-yard
dash.
The TQHA Claiming Futurity will be the ninth race on Saturday with
a scheduled post time of 9:47 p.m.
Lone Star Park’s 31-day, 2008 Quarter Horse Fall Meeting
of Champions will be held from September 26 to November 29. After
the opening weekend on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26-27, racing
will be held every Thursday through Saturday in October and each
Wednesday through Saturday in November, except Wednesday and Thursday,
Nov. 26-27 when there will be no live racing due to the Thanksgiving
