(Grand Prairie, Texas - Wednesday, September 23, 2015) - Race fans come be a part of the excitement of some of the sport of Quarter Horse racing's best this Friday, September 25. A total of nine races are carded, featuring six trials for three-year-olds, all vying for one of only 10 spots in the Grade 2, $150,000-estimated Dash for Cash Derby (G2) scheduled for Saturday, October 10. Gates open Friday at 5:30 p.m. First race post time 6:35 p.m. General Admission is just $5.00. General Parking is free.

Races three through eight of the nine-race card have been designated as trials for the Derby final. A total of 57 three-year-olds have been entered into those trial races, each hoping to qualify for the 18th renewal of the Grade 2 affair. It's all about speed as only the 10 fastest of the night will advance to the Derby.

Here are some of the entries of note:

Race 3 has drawn two standouts, Volcoms Thunder, owned by Stephanie J. Ornelas and trained by Esteban Rubio, has won four of seven starts this year, earning $174,935. Wins include the Grade 3 Sam Houston Derby on April 25 and the Firecracker Derby on July 3 at Delta Downs.

Also in Race 3 is Ynot Walk, owned by RTM Stables LLC & George T. Weldon and trained by James G. Hanson. The three-year-old gelding by Walk Thru Fire has won four of five starts for the year, including the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Derby on February 15, the Les Bois Park Bonus Challenge on June 24 and the Les Bois Derby Challenge on July 29. Total earnings for 2015 are $119,810.

In Race 5, owned by the partnership of Linda Joiner, Mark James Allen, Henry Southway and Leonard P. Blach, is Tempting Destiny, by Tempting Dash. Trained by Michael W. Joiner, the three-year-old gelding has won two of five starts this year, including the Grade 3 West Texas Derby at Sunland Park on March 28. He was also fourth in the Grade 1 Ruidoso Derby last June. His career earnings total over $280,000.

If any of Tempting Destiny's connections names sound familiar, it's most likely you remember a horse named Mine That Bird. Yes, Mark Allen and Leonard Blach were co-owners of that champion that won the 2009 Kentucky Derby at odds of 50-1. There was even a movie made about it you may have seen. It was titled "50-1".

In Race 8, you will want to watch Fire Fortune. He is owned by Jaime H. Gomez and trained by AQHA World Champion trainer for the past 13 years straight, Paul C. Jones. The gelding by Walk Thru Fire has won four of nine starts just this year, earning a total of $351,946 for his efforts. He was fourth in the Grade 1 Rainbow Derby on July 18, and after winning his trial impressively, he ran third in the Grade 1 All American Derby on September 7.
