Trials to Determine Field for Grade 2, $150,000-Est. Dash For Cash Derby Highlight Lone Star Park's Friday Race Card
(Grand Prairie, Texas - Thursday, September 19, 2013) - If you didn't make it out to Lone Star Park last weekend for the opening of our Fall Meeting of Champions, you won't want to miss the racing action this weekend! The trials for the Grade 2, $150k-estimated, Dash for Cash Derby are Friday, September 20, and trials for the Grade 1, $450k-estimated, Dash for Cash Futurity will be on Saturday, September 21. Plus, the Dancing Cowboy, Eddie Gonzalez will perform after the last live race Saturday as part of the Bud Light Pura Musica Concert Series.
Friday features five timed trials at a distance of 440 yards for the Grade 2, $150,000-Estimated Dash for Cash Derby (G2). The trials have drawn a total of 46 contenders, each competing to earn a spot as one of the top 10 qualifiers eligible to compete in the final here on Saturday, October 5. The trials have been carded races four through eight on the nine-race program.
Among top contenders is Bryon Gardner's Valiant Lil Lady, trained by Judd Kearl, winner of last year's Grade 1, $1 Million Texas Classic Futurity. The filly by Valiant Hero will be ridden by Rodrigo Vallejo. Her trial is race four with a scheduled post time of 7:47 p.m.
Ten-time AQHA World Champion jockey, G. R. Carter, Jr. will be here to ride two races Friday night. In race five, Carter will attempt to qualify All-American Derby contender, Louisiana Corona. Owned by Jason Richards & Michael J. LeBlanc and trained by Luis Villifranco, the filly by Jess Louisiana Blue, won her trial to advance to the All-American Derby where she finished a troubled eighth. Carter other mount is a longshot in race eight, Rc Had to Be My Day at 20-1, is winless from three attempts so far this year.
A stand-out in trial race six is The Magic Dash, trained by Sleepy Gilbreath. The First Down Dash gelding also won a berth into the All-American Derby with the fifth fastest time in the trials, and like Louisiana Blue, had trouble in the race. A clean trip could secure him a spot. The Magic Dash will be ridden by his regular rider Roy Baldillez, winner of the 2011 All-American aboard Ochoa.
Prince Valleyant, who crossed the wire first in last years Dash for Cash Futurity, but was disqualified to sixth place, is back and looking for redemption in trial race seven. Trained by Russell Harris, the gelding by Valiant Hero will be ridden by Larry Payne.
Gates open early Saturday at 5:00 p.m., and first race post time is at 5:30 p.m.
13 Dash For Cash Futurity Trials Schedule for Saturday, Only Ten Fastest Will Advance to Grade 1 Finals on October 5
Saturday's Dash for Cash Futurity Trials will certainly display American Quarter Horse racing competition at its best. A total of 125 two-year-olds, have drawn into 13 trial races at 400 yards, all vying for a spot in the final, the $450,000-estimated, Dash for Cash Futurity (G1). Only the top 10 with the fastest times will advance to the final which will be held here on Saturday, October 5.
In the first trial race of the night, take a look at Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle owned by Jason Giles and trained by Wesley Giles. The filly by Maknmoves, has already earned $57,912 in her young career from a record of 5-4-0-0. Her most notable of those wins was the Four Corners Futurity (G3) at Sunray Park on June 16.
Trey Wood, leading trainer at Lone Star Park for the last four fall seasons is sending out a total of six horses on the card. His trainee in the second trial race, Lethal Corona a colt by Corona Cartel, was third in the Easy Jet Stakes at Remington Park on June 2. He appears to be in top form, with a bullet work at 220 yards in 10.4 here on September 7.
In the fourth trial race is Oscar Canales Ramirez & Isidro Flores' Separatist Firstdown, also trained by Isidro Flores. The colt by Separatist, has amassed a bankroll of $145,753 from four wins out of six lifetime starts. His wins include the Harrah's Entertainment Futurity Stakes (G3) at Louisiana Downs on March 23 and in his last start, won the (G3) Gillespie County Fair Futurity August 25.
Another Trey Wood standout is Belle Helene in the 12th trial. Owned by JJ Cool L, LLC, the filly by Valiant Hero, just missed by a nose in the Rainbow Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs on July 21.
With all of the 125 horses entered Saturday trying to do their very best, each of the 13 trials races are sure to be exciting.

The Bud Light Pura Musica Concert Series presents Eddie Gonzalez, The Dancing Cowboy in concert Saturday after the last live race in our Courtyard of Champions. The concert is free with $5 General Admission. Persons under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
