Notes and Quotes for $268,230 Manor
Downs Futurity at SHRP Houston, Texas (May 1, 2004)
- Fastest qualifier Kathy's Star Quest, the fastest qualifier in
trials run on April 19, was a convincing winner in the $268,230
Manor Downs Futurity Grade II Stakes.
The finals of the 350-yard contest were held at Sam Houston Race
Park due to weather related condition that forced the postponement
of the trials.
Kathy's Star Quest was purchased for $7,500 at the 2003 TQHA Yearling
Sale and has now won three of her four starts for owner Euservio
Huitron of Austin and trainer Joe Chapa. Randy Edison rode the bay
filly, winning in a
time of :17.785.
Comments from Winning Jockey, Randy Edison:
All the horses ran well in the trials. Kathy made a lot of mistakes,
but showed a lot of promise. Everything went her way today."
Comments from Winning Trainer, Joe Chapa:
"It's always wonderful to have a good racehorse. This filly
always showed speed and we didn't have any doubt that she had talent.
It's always difficult to change tracks because you never know how
they'll react. It worked out fine, it looks like."
Comments from Jockey Manuel Garcia, rider of Ace of Southwest:
"He ran better in the trials but the off track didn't affect
him."
Comments from Jockey J. R. Ramirez, rider of Leaving Sails:
"He didn't break as clean as he can. He was standing too far
forward and the assistant couldn't get him to step back and it took
him a few strides to get a hold of the track. We were about fifth
midway the stretch when he got a hold and he started catching up."
Comments from Euservio Huitron, owner:
"She will return to Sam Houston Race Park for the TQHA Sires'
Cup and Sales Futurity."
