Cypress Resident Cashes $10,000 Mystery Voucher at SHRP
(Saturday, August 31, 2002) - The brochure said it all.
"You've already won at least $2.00 and could win as much as $10,000"
when you visit Sam Houston Race Park. That promise rang true for
Cypress, Texas resident David Brumfield as he cashed his "mystery
voucher" for $10,000 on Saturday, August 24.
Brumfield was the recipient of $10,000 from Sam Houston Race Park
as part of its ongoing direct mail campaign in which area residents
receive an invitation from Sam Houston Race Park, four admission
passes and a mystery money ticket ranging in value from $2.00 to
$10,000.
Brumfield, who lives in the Longwood subdivision of northwest Houston,
frequents Sam Houston Race Park for a couple hours on the weekend
to wager on simulcasting. He noted that he has received the mystery
mailing with the voucher in the past but hadn't always remembered
to bring them in. However, he had his voucher in hand last Saturday
when he came to Sam Houston Race Park to wager on races from Saratoga.
When he went to a mutuel window, he was informed that he held the
$10,000 Mystery Voucher.
"I couldn't believe it," said Brumfield, who is employed by BP
in their mergers and acquisition department. "I have never won anything
in my life, but was thrilled that my luck changed last weekend."
Brumfield and his wife, Carol, returned to Sam Houston Race Park
for a complimentary dinner in the Winner's Circle Restaurant and
a check presentation from Sam Houston Race Park president and general
manager, Robert Bork.
"I've visited racetracks across the country, and have been really
impressed with Sam Houston Race Park," said Brumfield. "It is a
very nice facility and they offer a great simulcasting program.
I haven't really figured out how to handicap Quarter Horses, but
with my earnings, I might pay closer attention."
