Eugene T. Joyce, the former general manager at Wyoming Downs who has been involved in horse racing since 1978, has been hired by Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie as the racetrack's Director of Product Development. Joyce will begin his new position at the North Texas racetrack effective immediately.

"Eugene is a great addition to our staff," said Corey S. Johnsen, Lone Star Park's President and General Manager. "He loves horse racing and his enthusiasm for the sport is contagious. Product development is extremely important, whether it's player development or expansion in simulcasting. We are thrilled to have hired an individual with his vast experience and creativity."

Joyce was general manager at Wyoming Downs in Evanston, Wyoming, from 1992 through 1998, working alongside his father, Joseph F. Joyce Jr., former president of Arlington Park and one of the most respected racing executives in the world. There, he provided direction to the racing, mutuels, food service, advertising, promotions and press relations departments. He also headed lobbying efforts with state legislatures and negotiated simulcasting contracts.

In addition, Joyce has extensive experience in sports marketing, television and sales. The graduate of Marquette University held positions with Host Communications, Turner Broadcasting Systems and Madison Square Garden Network before venturing into horse racing.

Joyce also worked at Arlington Park and SunRay Park and Casino. He was an active racing committee member and past chairman of the graded stakes sub-committee for the American Quarter Horse Association.

Joyce leaves a position as Director of Economic Development for the city of Evanston, Wyoming, a title he held since October 1999, to join Lone Star Park.
