Remi Bellocq Selected As National HBPA Executive Director
National HBPA Spokesperson Bill Walmsley recently announced that Remi Bellocq has been selected for the position of executive director of the National HBPA. Bellocq's appointment is the culmination of an arduous eight-month search to fill the prestigious post. According to Walmsley, Bellocq was the overwhelming choice of the National HBPA Board of Directors.
"It was a long and sometimes arduous task for members of the search committee," Walmsley commented. "I am truly elated with the HBPA Board's decision."
Bellocq will replace Scott Savin, who left the National HBPA to become president and general manager of Gulfstream Park.
"I am very excited to have the opportunity to, once again, work with horsemen and represent their interest as the Executive Director of the National HBPA," explained Bellocq. "It is a homecoming, of sorts, for me after spending 15 years in track marketing and management. I am looking forward to tackling the challenges that lie ahead."
The 39-year-old Bellocq, a graduate of the University of Arizona's Racetrack Industry Program, has extensive experience in racetrack marketing and management. He has worked at Santa Anita Park, Turf Paradise, Hollywood Park, Garden State Park, and the now defunct Longacres Race Course. Bellocq also served as associate coordinator and lecturer for the University of Arizona's Racetrack Industry Program.
Bellocq is an accomplished artist and the son of the world-renowned cartoonist Pierre "Peb" Bellocq of the Daily Racing Form.
Bellocq will be introduced to the National HBPA Board of Directors and begin his tenure as executive director at the National HBPA summer convention scheduled for August 11-14 in Boston, Massachusetts.
