TQHA Yearling Sale Sets Another Record at Sam Houston Race Park

The TQHA Yearling Sale has had record-breaking success each year it has been held at Sam Houston Race Park, and this year’s sale was no exception. The sale was once again extended to a two-day event and held inside the air-conditioned Pavilion Centre. With 355 yearlings passing through the sales ring, the 2005 TQHA Yearling Sale has a preliminary figure of $3.6 million in sales, surpassing the record of $3,207,900 set at last year’s sale.

The sale topper was Hip 143, Miss Shivers, a sorrel filly out of Dash Free and is granddaughter of Mr Jess Perry.

Sam Houston Race Park has hosted the TQHA Yearling Sale since 1998, when 96 horses passed through the ring. In 1999, there were 156 yearlings in the sale and the 2000 sale grew to 197 American Quarter Horses. The sale continues to grow, as the 2001 TQHA Yearling Sale attracted a record 211 horses, 247 passed through the sales ring in 2002, and 2003's sale featured 253 yearlings. Last year, a record 385 horses passed through the sale.

The yearlings purchased in the 2005 TQHA Yearling Sale will be eligible to run in the $100,000-added TQHA Sales Futurity (RG1) at Sam Houston Race Park next July.
