SHRP Racetrack Chaplaincy to Host Benefit
Bowling Tournament on Tuesday, August 28 The Race Track Chaplaincy
of Sam Houston Race Park is hosting its inaugural Charity Bowling Tournament
on Tuesday, August 28 at the Copperfield Bowl in Northwest Houston. The
tournament has will serve as a fundraiser for the Chaplaincy’s Benevolent
Fund.
The money raised during the tournament will be used to assist the people
working in the stable area, as well as the employees of the track. It
will assist individuals who may not have the means to meet their own needs,
such as groceries, rent, meals, clothing, traveling funds to help with
a family crisis or to attend a family member’s funeral, and many
other necessities.
Previous fundraisers have included golf tournaments and silent auctions.
However, with the heat and humidity in August, organizers thought that
a bowling tournament in the air conditioned comfort of the Copperfield
Bowling Center would be enjoyable for all the participants.
“The response from our riders, horsemen, and employees at Sam Houston
Race Park has been very positive,” commented Chaplain John Shumaker
of the decision to organize a bowling tournament. “We hope that
we will be able to have an exceptional turnout for the event.”
The Copperfield Bowl is located at 15615 Glen Chase Drive in northwest
Houston.
The tournament will begin at 6:30 p.m. on August 28.
A prize of $500 will be awarded to the player with the highest score;
the second place performer will receive $250, and the bowler with the
third highest score will be awarded $100.
The entry fee is $25 per player, or $125 for a team of five, and includes
complimentary shoe rental, meal ticket, prizes, and a goody bag.
