THP To Conduct Horsemen's Health Fair at SHRP
In an effort to provide more extensive member benefits, the Texas Horsemen's Partnership (THP) will be sponsoring health fairs at various Texas racetracks. The first health fair will be conducted at Sam Houston Race Park on Wednesday, August 7 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The health fairs will be available to all current members of the Texas Horsemen's Partnership and their immediate family members. Most of the providers assisting with the health fairs will be donating their time and services free of charge so that our members can have access to free preventive health care exams. Some of the services that will be provided are cholesterol screenings, blood pressure checks, diabetes screenings, glaucoma screenings, and hearing exams. The American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association will be providing bilingual literature for members to pick up.
The emphasis of the health fairs is preventive care. Making these services available will enable many of the THP's members access to care that they would otherwise not receive.
All screenings are confidential, and counseling is available to those who would like to utilize the services. In the future, the THP will be adding dental checks, skin screenings, plus much more to the health fair agenda.
"We are excited about the health fairs and the potential they hold for our members," stated Nancy Nichols, Benefits Coordinator for the Texas Horsemen's Partnership. Nichols continued, "Not only do they provide free preventive health care services, they give our members an opportunity to learn more about their member organization."
Nichols also stated that, "This is just the first of many such programs that the Texas Horsemen's Partnership will be developing for its members."
