Food Lovers Invited to Participate in
a Chef's Table at Sam Houston Race Park Sam Houston Race
Park will launch an exclusive Chef’s Table dining experience in
the Winner’s Circle Restaurant, Houston’s largest restaurant,
featuring a special seven-course menu prepared by Executive Chef Hugo
Gomez, paired with four wine tastings, along with a personalized fan education
program to explain the basics of reading the live racing program and placing
basic wagers, private wagering teller and live racing action for the evening,
beginning Saturday, March 27.
Participants will have the opportunity to converse with Chef Hugo throughout
the night as he walks guests through the menu and wine pairings, as well
as shares stories about his culinary career and his Argentinean roots
and influences. In addition, guests will have the opportunity to participate
in an informal Wagering 101 fan program, presented tableside by the Player’s
Services department, which includes a free tip sheet and live racing program
for the evening.
The evening will culminate with a tour of the announcer’s booth
where they will watch as track announcer Tom Harris calls a race, as well
as a trip to the winner’s circle to catch the ninth race from the
finish line and take a souvenir photo with the winning horse and jockey.
“This is truly a unique dining experience for food lovers who
are looking for a more interactive dining experience,” said Chef
Gomez. “Not only will guests learn more about the traditions and
heritage that I bring to the menu, they will have a unique backdrop featuring
a hands-on tour of our live racing product. It is by far one of the most
exciting Chef’s Table events in town!”
Executive Chef Hugo Gomez has been with The Park since May 2009, during
which time he has elevated the quality of the menu by infusing his twist
on traditional items with new flavors and the flare of his international
heritage. Prior to joining The Park, Gomez served as Executive Chef for
Hotel Derek, one of Houston’s top boutique hotels and the popular
dining destination Bistro Moderne. He also served as Banquet Sous Chef
for InterContinental Hotel and Banquet Kitchen Manager for the Hilton-Americas
Hotel, the largest convention hotel in the city, where he specialized
in designing and preparing menus for weddings, galas, large conferences
and special events. Gomez received his culinary training from the Art
Institute of Houston.
Gomez was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and has lived and worked
in several major cities including New York City, San Francisco and Seoul,
Korea. He lives in Houston with his wife Carrie and their daughter, Alyse.
He is active in giving back to the community, working with charitable
organizations such as the Houston Food Bank and Children’s Fund,
which helps to raise money annually for charitable purposes directed at
assisting children.
The Chef’s Table is limited to six guests and is available during
live racing events on Saturday evenings only beginning March 27. Tickets
