Sam Houston Race Park has requested the addition of four live racing dates, to take place on Mondays in the month of March, for the 2009/2010 Thoroughbred schedule. Two of the requested dates are make up dates due to the inclement weather and freezing track conditions that caused the cancellation of live racing on January 8 & 9. The Park has requested an additional two live race dates to round out the live racing schedule. The requested race dates are March 8, 15, 22, & 29. Monday live racing events will feature a post time of 1:20 p.m.

The request for live racing dates for Sam Houston Race Park is subject to the review and approval by the Texas Racing Commission.

“We are working with the Texas Racing Commission to reschedule January’s lost racing dates and are excited to add two more dates to our schedule for the month of March. We think that the afternoon post time is a great opportunity to reach live racing fans as well as simulcast fans. We have every confidence that the dates will be approved,” said Andrea Young, President and Chief Operating Officer, Sam Houston Race Park.

Live Thoroughbred racing events take place Thursday through Saturday in January; Thursday through Sunday in February; Thursday through Saturday and Mondays in March; and Thursday through Saturday in April. The 2009/2010 Thoroughbred meet closes on Saturday, April 3.

Stakes highlights for the remainder of the 2009/2010 Thoroughbred meet include: the John B. Connally Turf Cup (G3) & Jersey Lily Stakes (January 30); Jim’s Orbit Stakes & Two Altazano Stakes (February 20); the MAXXAM Gold Cup & Sam Houston Distaff (March 27).

The Park will host the 17th Annual American Quarter Horse Meet beginning Friday, May 1 through Saturday, August 14, 2010.

In addition to live racing events, The Park will continue to build upon the success of the summer post-race concert series and stand alone festivals throughout the spring and summer months. More information on live music events will be announced soon.

Simulcast events continue to take place daily from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. on the Paddock Level of the building.
