Horsemen's Rally Slated for Thursday,
February 17 at Retama Park
The Texas Horsemen's Partnership, in conjunction with Retama Park and
the Texas Thoroughbred Association, are conducting a Horsemen’s
Rally in the grandstand of the Selma track near San Antonio. The event
will be on Thursday, February 17 at 11:00 a.m. in the Showplace Pavilion
at Retama Park. We will be discussing legislative issues that will be
important to you as a member of the Texas racing industry.
The 45-minute session is aimed at giving horsemen and Retama Park employees
an update on our industry’s efforts to pass legislation that will
legalize video lottery terminals (VLTs) at the state’s existing
licensed tracks. Industry lobbyists will be on hand to give an overview
of the political landscape, along with representatives from the racetrack,
breed registry and the horsemen’s organization.
There will also be information available on ways that horsemen can get
involved in the process and help ensure a legislative victory. Patti Colbert
and Weslie Elliot will be addressing the attendees on ways that everyone
can participate in the legislative process. One way that horsemen will
be asked to volunteer is by committing one day to meet with members of
the legislature.
Material will be presented that will aid horsemen in their attempts to
talk about our initiative when addressing legislators. There will be several
handouts that cover the economic impact figures our industry has on the
Texas economy, and experts will be on hand to answer questions regarding
our legislation or the process of passing bills.
If you have questions or need additional information, please contact
the Texas Horsemen's Partnership office at (512) 467-9799 and speak with
Wanda.
