Memorial Service Planned for Jockey Mark Page at Sam Houston Race Park

Sam Houston Race Park will hold a memorial service for Quarter Horse jockey Mark Page, who passed away on October 20, 2005. Page was a Houston native and had been a longstanding member of the Sam Houston Race Park jockey colony since the northwest Houston racetrack opened in 1994.

Last summer, the 45-year-old veteran won four stakes races, including the $28,350 MD Barns Texas Distance Challenge (G3) and the $45,500 Barnmaster Sprint Stakes, both for trainer Matt Baker. Page completed the 2005 meeting ranked second with 28 victories.

Page is survived by his mother, Beatrice Page, and a brother, Sam Page.

The memorial service will be held this Friday, October 28 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chaplaincy Building, led by Sam Houston Race Park Chaplain John Shumaker. Donations to the Race Track Chaplaincy of Texas will be accepted in honor of the late jockey.
