Manor Quarter Horse Meet to Open March
1 Manor Downs near Austin, Texas, is set to open its 2003
Quarter Horse meet on Saturday, March 1. The meet will continue through
March 30 racing on Saturdays and Sunday. First post will be at 1:30 p.m.
on all racing days. Highlighting the meet will the the Grade II Manor
Downs Handicap, Derby and Futurity.
The Manor Downs Quarter Horse meet will be followed immediately by a
mixed breeds meet running from April 5 through April 27 on Saturdays and
Sundays. The Manor Downs Thoroughbred meet will begin on May 3 and go
through May 11 on Saturdays and Sundays.
The $15,000-added Manor Downs Handicap (Gr. II) will be held on March
30 at 400 yards for 3-year-olds and upward.
A second Manor Downs Handicap (Gr. III) for Quarter Horses will be run
during the mixed meet, also with an added purse of $15,000. For 3-year-olds
and upward, it will be run on April 5.
The Manor Downs Derby (Gr. II) and Manor Downs Futurity (Gr. II) for
Quarter Horses are slated for April 26, with the former being for 3-year-olds
and the latter being for 2-year-olds. The Derby will carry a $35,000-added
purse plus a $15,760 carryover, while the Futurity will boast a $75,000
added purse.
The following day, April 27, the Manor Downs Maturity (Gr. III) will
be run. It will have an added purse of $25,000 as well as a carryover
of $6,640.
