Lone Star Park Announces 2022 Thoroughbred Racing Season
(Grand Prairie, Texas - Sunday, December 26, 2021) - After coming off of a successful Thoroughbred Racing Season in 2021, Lone Star Park is looking forward to 2022. The track's Thoroughbred racing season will begin Thursday, April 28, 2022, with 48 live racing days, and will conclude July 24.
The calendar features live racing on Thursdays and Fridays at 6:35 p.m. Post time on Saturdays, Sundays and Memorial Day will be 1:35 p.m., and special twilight post times of 5:00 p.m. will take place on July 3 and July 4.
The 2022 Thoroughbred racing season stakes schedule will have a total of 21 stakes worth a combined total of $2,825,000, a $600,000 increase from the 2021 stakes schedule. The highlight of the schedule is Lone Star Million Day on Memorial Day, and the marquee race is the $400,000 guaranteed Steve Sexton Mile (Gr. III) for three-year-olds & up at one mile. New to this year's Lone Star Million day card will be the $100,000 guaranteed Speightstown Sprint for three-year-olds & up going six furlongs on the dirt. The Summer Turf Festival will be returning on Saturday, July 16 with significant purse increases in all four stakes.
Other than the $75,000 Bluebonnet Stakes which kicks off the season on Opening Night all other stakes will be held on one of four dates. They are:
- Lone Star Million Day, Monday, May 30 - six stakes worth a total of $1,200,000 Lone Star Showcase Day,
- Sunday, June 19 - five stakes worth a total of $375,000 Summer Turf Festival,
- Saturday, July 16 - four stakes worth a total of $750,000 Stars of Texas Day,
- Sunday, July 17 - five stakes worth a total of $425,000. The 2022 Thoroughbred Racing Season Stakes
