Live Racing Resumes Thursday Night at Lone Star Park
(Grand Prairie, Texas - Tuesday, April 10, 2012) - The gates will open on the 2012 live racing season at Lone Star Park on Thursday night (April 12) with a scheduled first-race post time of 6:35 p.m. Admission gates open early at 4:30 p.m. with Opening Ceremonies scheduled to begin at approximately 5:45 p.m.
The 16th running of the $50,000 Premiere Stakes, to be run at six and one half furlongs over the main track, for accredited Texas-bred 3-year-olds and upward, will get the season started. Scheduled as the first race on the program, the Premiere Stakes has an approximate post time of 6:35 p.m.
Red Coyote has been installed as the 2-1 morning line favorite by track oddsmaker Rick Lee. He is owned by Clarence Scharbauer Jr., and trained by Bret Calhoun, leading trainer at the 2011 Lone Star Park Thoroughbred Meeting (50 wins). Red Coyote will be looking for his first Lone Star Park win since beginning his racing career here in May 2009. Chris Rosier will guide the gelded son of Early Flyer, who sired winners of 11 races here last season.
Trainer Karl Broberg, currently ranked sixth in the nation with number of wins (56), returns to Lone Star Park for the season and will be represented in the Premiere Stakes by Solar Charge. He is a winner of $222,412 lifetime earnings and has been awarded morning line odds of 5-2.
Gold Element, owned by local favorite Wimp Free Stables and stable mate of Red Coyote, figures to have his share of supporters in the opening night stakes at odds of 7-2.
The field from the rail out, with jockey and morning line odds listed in parenthesis, consists of: Solar Charge (Glen Murphy, 5-2); Oak Motte (Roman Chapa, 8-1); Deliverer (Bryan McNeil, 8-1); Supreme Secret (Richard Eramia, 6-1); Big Scrape (Jose Figueroa, 20-1); Gold Element (Lindey Wade, 7-2); Red Coyote (Chris Rosier, 2-1).
Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, a Class I racetrack operated by Global Gaming Solutions LLC, offers a53-day 2012 Spring Thoroughbred Season which opens Thursday, April 12 and concludes on Sunday, July 8. Live racing will be held four days a week, Thursday and Friday at 6:35 p.m. (except Thursday, May 31 and Thursday, July 5 when there will be no live racing), and Saturday and Sunday at 1:35 p.m. The racing program on Memorial Day, May 28, will start at 1:35 p.m. Special twilight programs will be held at 5 p.m. on both Tuesday, July 3 (with post-race concert by award-winning country artist Pat Green) and Wednesday, July 4 (with the Lone Stars & Stripes Fireworks Celebration).
The track's 26-day, 2012 Fall Meeting of Champions for American Quarter Horses will be held from Sept. 14 to Nov. 10.
Lone Star Park is also home to the multi-million dollar simulcast racebook, sports bar and event venue, Bar & Book. The 36,000 square foot venue is open to the public 363 days a year.
