Shubeck Named Lone Star Park President
& General Manager; Hail, Newman Promoted to Vice-President & Assistant General
Manager Magna Entertainment Corp. (MEC) has named Drew Shubeck
as the new President and General Manager for Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie.
In addition, G.W. Hail and Paula Newman have been promoted to Vice-President
& Assistant General Manager. The announcement comes three weeks after
the resignation of former Lone Star Park President Corey Johnsen.
"Drew, G.W. and Paula are valued members of the MEC team, and I'm
confident they'll further Lone Star Park's reputation as one of North
America's finest horseracing facilities with superior customer service,"
said Michael Neuman, MEC Chief Executive Officer.
Shubeck joined Lone Star Park's executive team one year ago as Vice-President
and General Manager following a four-year stint as general manager of
MEC Pennsylvania Racing at The Meadows. The New Jersey native also served
seven years as an associate general manager for the New Jersey Sports
and Exposition Authority overseeing Monmouth Park and The Meadowlands.
Prior to that, he was a regional representative with AmTote International.
Hail and Newman have been executives at Lone Star Park since the racetrack's
inaugural racing season in 1997.
Hail joined Lone Star Park in August 1996 as Director of Marketing following
nine years of employment with the Ackerman McQueen Advertising Agency.
He was elevated to Lone Star Park's Vice-President of Marketing &
Sales in September 1999.
Newman was named Lone Star Park's Controller in May 1997 after eight
years in the same position at Remington Park. She was promoted to Lone
Star Park's Vice-President of Finance in September 1999.
Live horse racing returns to Lone Star Park on Thursday, April 12 for
a yearlong celebration of the racetrack's 10th anniversary. The 67-date
Spring Thoroughbred Season will run 16 weeks through July 29.
