THBPA and TTHBPA Election Results Are
In! The Texas Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective
Association (THBPA) and Texas Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Benevolent
and Protective Association (TTHBPA) recently held elections for a number
of positions on their respective boards of directors. The elections have
concluded, and the results are in.
The THBPA, which represents Quarter & Paint Horse horsemen and women,
conducted an election for two owners and one trainer. In the owner category,
incumbents Dr. Tommy Hays of Elgin and current THPBA President and Texas
Horsemen’s Partnership (THP) Chairman Jim Helzer of Arlington defeated
Donna Mushinski to retain their positions on the Board. M. Heath Taylor
of Letbetter was elected to represent trainers on the THBPA Board in 2004
over Anthony Arey, Octavio Saenz Jr., and incumbent Brad Bolen.
The TTHBPA, which represents Thoroughbred and Arabian horsemen and women,
conducted two elections - one for two Thoroughbred owners and one Thoroughbred
trainer, and another separate election for one Arabian representative.
Incumbents Larry Christopher of Crockett and Tom Durant of Grapevine
won reelection to the Thoroughbred owner positions available on the TTHBPA
Board over Bethe Deal. For the trainer position, John Locke of Houston
defeated Randy Mayfield and Andy Konkoly.
The Arabian representative position was won by Mike Furr of Boerne,
who defeated incumbent Dan McNair.
The THBPA and TTHBPA will elect officers at their first Board of Directors
meetings of 2004.
The THP would like to thank outgoing board members Brad Bolen, Burl McBride and Dan McNair for all of their hard work and dedicated service.
We would also like to welcome M. Heath Taylor, John Locke and Mike Furr
to their respective Board of Directors and look forward to working with
them.
