TTHBPA Board Member Bret Calhoun Saddles Two Breeders' Cup Winners
(Louisville, Kentucky- November 6, 2010) - Trainer W. Bret Calhoun, a longtime member of the TTHBPA Board of Directors, saddled two Breeders' Cup winners at the two-day championship event held on Friday, November 5 and Saturday, November 6 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Both winners had additional connections the the TTHBPA as Dubai Majesty is owned by Martin Racing Stable and Dan Morgan, while Chamberlain Bridge is owned by Carl Moore Management. Bill Martin of Martin Racing Stable (Bill and Stephanie Martin of Dallas, Texas) is a former TTHBA Board member, and Carl Moore of Fort Worth, Texas is a past president of the TTHBPA. Dubai Majesty and Chamberlain Bridge marked Calhoun's first Breeders' Cup triumphs.
On Friday, November 5, Dubai Majesty justified the faith of her connections, who had supplemented her for $90,000 to the $1 million Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf Sprint. Dubai Majesty took the lead in the stretch and edged away under jockey Jamie Theriot for a convincing 2 1/4-length win over Switch in 1:22.31 for the seven furlongs. On Saturday, Calhoun and jockey Jamie Theriot successfully teamed up again with Chamberlain Bridge in the $1 million Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint. Overcoming a recent foot abcess, Chamberlain Bridge raced near the back of the field early in the Turf Sprint but then rallied wide and came flying in the stretch to catapult past the field and beat Central City to the wire by 1 1/2 lengths in :56.63 for the five furlongs over a firm turf course.
