SHRP's McGovern Named to Equibase Management
Committee Ann McGovern, vice president of operations for
Sam Houston Race Park, has been appointed by the Thoroughbred Racing Associations
of North America (TRA) to the Equibase Company LLC Management Committee,
it was announced on April 26 by Equibase Chairman Alan Marzelli.
McGovern replaces Ray Tromba, who became a member of the committee in
August 2002. Other members of the committee are Craig Fravel, Jim McAlpine,
Bill Nader, Karl Schmitt and Mike Weiss representing the TRA; Sherwood
Chillingworth, C. Steven Duncker, Dan Fick, Alan Marzelli, Nick Nicholson
and Ogden Mills Phipps representing The Jockey Club.
“We thank Ray for his involvement with various Equibase initiatives
over the past three-and-a-half years,” Marzelli said. “We
look forward to Ann’s bringing her extensive industry experience,
dedication and knowledge of Equibase to the management committee.”
A graduate of the Race Track Industry Program at the University of Arizona,
McGovern has been involved with the racing industry for 22 years, and
she has been vice president at Sam Houston since 1994. Her racing career
began at Louisiana Downs, where she was the assistant director of public
relations and marketing. She then moved to Remington Park, where she was
director of operations.
McGovern is a member of the American Quarter Horse Association racing
committee and an alternate director for the TRA. In addition, she was
instrumental in bringing the $1 million MBNA American Challenge Championships
to Sam Houston Race Park in 2004.
