(Austin, Texas - Wednesday, August 14, 2013) - At a meeting of the Texas Racing Commission (TxRC) yesterday, the agency approved 2014 race dates for Texas racetracks.

The Gillespie County Fair in Fredericksburg was granted its requested traditional eight-day mixed meet. Live racing will be held at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds in 2014 on July 4, 5, 19, and 20 and August 9, 10, 22, and 24.

Laredo Downs in Laredo was granted a 6-day Quarter Horse meet. Racing would be conducted at the track for the first time on August 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, and 31, 2014.

Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie was granted a 50-day Thoroughbred meet that will run from April 10 to July 12, 2014 and a 26-day Quarter Horse meet that will run from September 19 through November 15, 2014.

Retama Park near San Antonio was granted a 26-day Thoroughbred meet that will run from September 5 through November 29, 2014. Retama's 20-day Quarter Horse meet will be conducted from June 6 through August 9.

Saddle Brook Park in Amarillo was granted two days of mixed meet racing. The track's initial meet would be conducted Octeber, 24 and 25, 2014.

Sam Houston Race Park in Houston was granted a 30-day Thoroughbred meet from January 17 through March 9, 2014. Additionally, Sam Houston was granted a 24-day Quarter Horse meet that will run from March 20 through May 11.

Finally, Valle do los Tesoros in McAllen was granted a 6-day Quarter Horse meet. Racing would be conducted November 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, and 30, 2014.

In all, the 2014 race dates for Texas racetracks include 106 Thoroughbred race days, 82 Quarter Horse race days, and 10 days of mixed breed racing.
